So you have washed your body all over, changed your pants, socks, and skin hugging clothes but then why do you still smell??? Every region of the human body has a different odour; sometimes the odour is so distinctive that it allows immediate identification of its origin. For instance, scalp and feet odours are easily recognised. Body odour is one of the biggest antisocial elements of our times.
If there is anything today that people are still ashamed to talk about is body odour. It's like you are restricted and cannot venture out into a bus or even a shopping mall. Now that surely explains why everyone tries to stay sweat free. It can get very disgusting when you get the unpleasant, penetrating and pungent sweat smell that is produced by the human bodies.
According to research one in five people suffer from Body Odour. The problem is aggravated in humid climates when there is excessive sweating and bacterial action. These people face a lot of embarrassment, teasing and bullying by their friends, colleagues. Their sense of self-esteem also gets affected.
What causes Sweat?
Sweating or Perspiration is the body's way of relieving heat from within the body. Sweat by itself does not have an odour. The bacteria that live on skin cause the smell and this breaks it down into aromatic fatty acids. These are the substances that produce the dreaded smell. Everyone's body sweats. So if there is a problem of body odour there sure must be a way to tackle it also in a way or two. Firstly by reducing the amount of sweating and by treating the bacteria that produce the smell.
- There are three factors that are responsible in creating body odours:
- The type and patterns of secretory glands on the skin surface.
- The positioning of the skin for e.g. -the armpits, if it gets very difficult for sweat to evaporate, it would then produce a characteristic odour.
