The phenomenon

This morning when I walked out of my house for an auto to my office, these four drunken lousy guys in a car did what they’re best at doing - Stopped the car before me, passed a few shoddy remarks, and offered me a seat in the car.

This goes just to show how they would like their sisters to be treated. To my surprise, on a busy road like that, I did expect a few to come up while I tolerated the obscenity. But eyes turned away…  And believe me, this was just another day with the same old chapter in a girls’ life.

From an autowala, to a car driver to a shopkeeper, all men bulge their eyes out, ogle and pass remarks at you when you walk down. There was no word eve-teasing in the dictionary, till Indians invented it!!! Perhaps, they never realize that charity begins at home. What happened with me could happen to girls at their homes too.

 
What to do if stuck…

The defensive alarm should be that you carry things with you for your own protection. Carry pen knives, pepper sprays, guns and daggers would also as a protection barricade. Take self-defence lessons. A chop or karate would do well. You could be lucky unlike me, so if you shout out, chances are that people would come for help.

 
The Brave in you

Always remember, present yourself as a brave girl. Though I know how shitty scary it feels inside. But put on a brave show. Always walk in well-lit areas. Avoid shady places.

Be street smart, aware of your surroundings, alert about each move. Turn to the teaser and scream at him. But please don’t try this at a gang of guys. They will pounce on you. You aren’t on the prowl here.

 
Talk…

If it’s happening frequently, tell it to your parents, or if you live alone in a city, talk it out with your male friends. Go with a male escort if necessary. No, I’m not questioning your ability to tackle situations, but a help here can avoid further mess. Could be that a psycho or obsessed guy is following you; then what… Better safe than sorry!!!
