Worried about how to treat your hair this rainy season? Or which way to dress your face? Here are a few tips on dos and dont’s during wet days
It’s raining, it’s pouring and the old man is snoring. But you don’t be a bore and snore, instead go out and score. Hit all the high points with the perfect hair, skin and make-up in place and look like water goddess even when the clouds are thundering down on you.
First, lets get the basics right. When it comes to hair, monsoons are not really a friend for your tresses. The pitter-patter brings with it a host of hair care problems like frizzy hair, limpness, greasiness and hair fall. The heightened moisture in the air makes the texture dull, flat and tangled. As a result your mane can look unattractive. But fret not as hairstylist Sneha Jain advices, “To tackle the problems, washing it well and deep conditioning is of utmost importance. Your scalp tends to get very sticky this time of the season too and for this one should avoid using too much of products like gels and mousse. Oil your hair once in 15 days.”
She also suggests that this is not the right time to go in for chemical treatments on your hair like colouring, highlights, perming and straightening as it will only add more frizz to your hair due to the added moisture in the air. Best way to wear your hair, Sneha says, “Iron your bangs in front and scrunch the rest of your hair for that oh-so-cool look.”
Coming to your face, Dr Prismi Jain, homeopath has the best solutions for you. “With no sunlight exposure, the skin doesn’t perspire and thus is not able to cleanse itself the natural way. For this steam your face every fortnight to open up the clogged pores. Apply a fruit pack or mix fullers earth (multani mitti), honey, rose water with milk and apply on your face for 15 minutes before washing it off with cold water.”
With your face all glowing now, it’s time to apply some make-up. But be warned that in monsoons, dense make-up has a risk of being smudged and washed out severely and so light and sheer make-up is more advisable.
Make-up artist Rita Verma, says, “Kohl is a big no-no as it will fade-off due to the humidity. So to add drama to your eyes, resort to water-proof mascara. Do not use any powder products but go for cream blush/ rouge and cream eye-shadows in colours of yellow, misty green and light pink.” For the lips, Rita suggest to make a pout, dab some light lipstick on with our ring finger and apply some nude or shimmery gloss to be good-to-go.
But don’t step in or out of the rain without that pedicure, cautions Priya Kripalani. “Our feet tend to get wet in puddles, we end up wearing wet socks for a long time or we wear rubber chappals in which all the icky-dirt gets into its grooves. All this can cause fungus on our soles and thus a regular pedicure every fortnight is advisable. You can also go in for hot wax manicure and pedicure treatments this time around,” says Priya.
