‘Now, there’s someone thinking about you 24/7’

They are just back from their honeymoon and the newly-weds cannot stop gushing over each other. After a two-year courtship, sarod player Ayaan Ali Khan and sweetheart Neema Sharma finally tied the knot a month ago.

Distant no more

“Ayaan used to text me from international airports telling me where he was. Now, we don’t need to do that any more,” smiled Neema who is relieved that they don’t have to continue the long-distance relationship. “We have had enough of talking to each other on the phone all the time,” she said.

Tied to love

The couple went on a honeymoon to Europe after Ayaan finished his concert with his father (sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan) and brother (musician Amaan Ali Khan) in Germany. “It was the first time I was checking into the airport without my sarod and it was pretty odd,” he laughed.

For Ayaan, life has changed in many ways; from his parents seeing him as a married man to cherishing the moments that he spends with his wife.

“These moments won’t come back. There’s certain stability in my life now. As a bachelor, you are not really answerable. You are doing your own thing. Now there’s someone who is thinking about you 24/7. That’s a support system,” he reflected.

Fine-tuning

When quizzed about the difference in the two phases—courtship and now being married the Delhi-based Ayaan said, “It’s not all rosy because at the end of the day it’s sharing an intimate space. Both the parties have to adjust and there are more adjustments to be made for the girl because she has left her home and in Neema’s case even her city (Neema is a Mumbai girl).”

Neema seems to be enjoying all the attention that she’s getting at her in-laws’ house; so much so that she doesn’t miss her family as much as she thought she would.

“I do miss them but only sometimes. I am so comfortable with Ayaan’s parents and Amaan bhai that I’m enjoying every bit of it,” giggled Neema.

She plans to start her own venture once she has settled down completely.

“I have done a course in event management and also worked with my father; so at some point I would like to pursue that,” she says.

Added Ayaan, “Professionally, whatever help she needs from me, I’ll be there. I will always be by her side.”
