Short hair is in this seasonSnip snip snip! And that’s like a perfect hair cut. Rick Lee knows how to make love to the hair with scissors. He is the Asian ambassador for Schwarzkopf Professional, the hair styling company. He has styled the recent Miss Malaysia and Miss China International and has a list of celebrity clients in Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Rick feels that short hair is the best style statement for a woman. “Short hair shows a woman’s full face and makes her look more beautiful and confident. People have a perception that short hair looks boyish on women. I think nothing can be more feminine than short hair. In India, most women do not want to go in for short hair. I have specific styles for them.”
Piled and tumbling curls or full or sculpted straight hair (long hair); mix and match of edgy and layered detailing with hidden lengths and shattered outlines; and head hugging bobs with shorter internal shapes or longer lengths are the three trends for women for the spring summer season.
For men, he suggests a clean cut with hair outlines kept lean through the sides. How does Rick gain the confidence of his clients?
“While cutting a woman’s hair, I think like a man. And while styling a man, I think like a woman. It’s always good to have two minds because styling becomes more attractive when looked from the perspective of the opposite sex,” he says.
Does he want to style any actor from India? “Oh! I am totally in awe of the beautiful Miss World Aishwarya Rai. If I get a chance I would suggest her to cut her hair short. Like all my clients, I am confident she will like my cut,” he says.
Rick will host a hair styling show on TV channel Jai-Yee in Malaysia and China in June. He runs his own academy called Sense Studio Academy in Malaysia where he teaches hair styling.
Taking about some hair care tips, Rick comments, “Never wash your hair with hot water. Hot water causes oil imbalance in the scalp and damages hair follicles. Conditioning is very important in all weather conditions. A conditioner must be applied every time you wash your hair. Colouring your hair causes no harm and it can be used without fear.”
