It never gets datedCyrus Oshidar had a habit of frequenting Chor Bazaar. This ex-creative chief of MTV used to hunt for something unique to add to his collection.
Over the years Cyrus has added some rare calendar art pieces to his collection that include old Saraswati and Laxmi pictures studded with semiprecious stones. His collection also includes some ‘rare’ posters of Hollywood and Bollywood films like Wings Over Honululu, Diler Daku and Jhansi Ki Rani.
“From my trips to Chor Bazaar, began my passion of collecting art pieces,” says Cyrus, adding, “Now that the Indian art industry is booming, these rare pieces are fetching thousands. Earlier, shopkeepers used to be glad to part away with these. In fact, they used to thank me for clearing the junk from their shops.”
If you have a creative eye, these artworks are truly unique. Their style, the fonts are different and fascinating and all the artworks narrate a story. Cyrus’s collection also boasts of rare prints of Raja Ravi Verma’s works that are sourced from the Ravi Verma Press near Lonavala.
Cyrus says, “These artworks have intricate craftsmanship. I have a lovely picture of old Benaras and a classic Independence print showcasing Nehru and Gandhi with Bharat Mata in the background, which dates back to 1947. These would look very good as decorative pieces in homes as they are quite cool.”
The entire collection of unique lithographs, oleographs, old movie posters and promotional materials of Hollywood and Bollywood movies have been put up for display at 1BHK store in Kamala Mills.
