“The works we bring to public here are the original works from Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is made out of pure marble and direct from the skilful workers of the native,” says Mohammad Alam, who supervises National Marble Handicrafts, a wholesaler and retailer dealer.

Priced from small amount of Rs 50 to whopping Rs 12,000, these road shops have a wide scale of variety. Embedded with different colours and stones, these art pieces are a huge hit among craft lovers. Marble pillars, fountains, tables, flower pots, lamps, pop fillers and letters embossing are the few items among the collection. Variety is not just present in the craft work done, the work is also available in different forms of marble. The forms are available in Makrana, Italian, Morvo, Jaiselmer and Katni.

“Basically we have variety in marbles too. Right from high quality to others are present here. Makrana and Katni are the high quality ones and so the rates differ for them, what costs Rs 100 in Makrana will price at RS 60 in Katni,” says Meeraj Bhai, owner of the Mumbal marble handicraft, shop at Khanda Gaon.

Fountains of different heights are the main attraction of this collection. Coming in different heights right from 2 ft to 6 ft in various colours, these fountains are preferred by people to keep a wonderful piece of art in their home.

Their rates differ on basis of height like Rs 5,000 for 6 feet piece. These highway shopping outlets are on a rise these days in Navi Mumbai- Pune Highway. “Thinking and buying is not the trend in case of highway shopping. People drop in, see and take decision then and there itself. In some cases, they give orders and we deliver the item to wherever they want. With people on the roll to decorate their home well, the sales are good these days,” concludes Meeraj Bhai.

With these people closing in their shops during the month of June as rainy season comes in, catch on the attractive piece of art before it goes away from your vicinity.
