‘My weight is my style statement’
And that is why Delnaz Paul is not too keen on losing it
On working with Vinod Khanna…
Like everyone else, I was conscious about working with Vinod Khanna in Mere Apne (on 9X). But he’s a thorough gentleman and great fun to work with. He loves having youngsters around him and is insistent that we all eat together to bond well. When I told him that I found him very glamorous in Qurbaani, he just blushed.
On Smriti as a producer…
She takes care of all her artistes and expects things to be done in time and properly. Recently, when there was a problem in parts of Mumbai owing to the North Indian issue, she made sure that all the people in her unit reached home safely. Since, the last two weeks, I have had a terrible backache and she makes sure that I am very comfortable on the sets. With such a producer, no wonder going to work is like picnic. My role of Krishna too is interesting — she’s a vivacious character who’s a complete film buff.
On doing films…
Right now, its only Mere Apne and Yes Boss which is in its seventh year now. I can’t take up anything more because of my film commitments too — a guest appearance in Bhootnath, Saurabh Shukla’s I am 24 and Khal-bali which is a mad comedy. Post Kal Ho Na Ho, I did a few films but they didn’t do me much good. But I am looking forward to the much-delayed Milenge Milenge (Shahid-Kareena) which should release soon.
On her weight problem…
I am a unique specimen — thodasa hatke (laughs). Jokes apart, there are so many young faces today that one has to have his own standing point. And I guess it’s my weight. I got my major break in the film Kal Ho Na Ho because I am plump. Of course, I keep fit by doing my exercises and eating a proper diet.
But I have no inclination of losing weight to compete with the slim girls. I was born to be chubby. But the one compliment that I get constantly is that I don’t carry my weight shabbily. I dress in a fashion that I carry myself gracefully. In fact, my weight is a style statement to many overweight people. I am the brand ambassador for clothing line for such people called ‘Just my size’.
On starting a family…
It’s been 11 years sice Rajiv and I got married. We are now planning to extend our family. But there’s a lot of work which I plan to sort out first before I go for it. Rajiv will be a good father for sure.
