A Swift car named Dzire

swiftdzireRachna Tyagi

Maruti's range of cars has come full circle with the launch of its new car, which besides being touted as the successor to the widely acclaimed Esteem model is yet another addition to its stables.

After the phenomenal success of Maruti Suzuki's Swift model which was a runaway success so much so that Maruti backed the petrol car with a diesel engined version shortly afterwards, it is now Maruti's turn to give something new to its loyal fans. This one goes by the name of Swift Dzire.

The car which is built on the same platform as the Swift is targeted at the entry level sedan segment is definitely here to hot up competition for the likes of Mahindra Logan, which is comparatively new when compared to the Ford Ikon Flair and Hyundai Accent that have been around for a considerable while now.

The petrol version of the car comes strapped with a 1.3l, 16Valve ALTec 32 engine that offers 87bhp @ 6000 rpm and the diesel version comes with a 1.3l DDiS engine offering a torque of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm.

With the launch of the Dzire, Maruti has upped the ante with a host of top-of-the-line features such as steering-mounted audio controls which is a first, automatic climate controls and power windows which incidentally even the Mahindra Logan boasted of. The plan on Maruti's part however, was to give people a refined entry-level sedan, which it seems to have done only too well.

Safety has been of paramount importance on the carmaker's mind and in terms of safety features, the Dzire comes loaded with dual airbags, ABS and CBD and of course the much renowned iCATS security feature which makes your car theft-proof.

With more features, superior styling and extra space in the form of a boot, for which a team of eleven engineers had the uphill task of designing and integrating a boot that blended seamlessly into the design of the Swift, the Dzire, sure seems all geared up to take on competition in the form of a neatly packaged car that offers sedan-like features with Swift's proven hatchback performance.

A noteworthy aspect of the Dzire is that it weighs only 30kgs extra as compared to the Swift, this despite the boot, which only goes on to show the expertise of Maruti Suzuki's engineering team.

This time around Maruti seems to have taken a cue from its competitor Hyundai at least in terms of offering a variety of colours. The Dzire is being offered in seven colours, Arctic White, Silky Silver, Clear Beige, Midnight Black, Bright Red, Azure Grey and Sovereign Blue.

So then can we expect another winner from Maruti this time in the sedan arena?
